We believe there are naturally-occurring solutions to human-made problems. When it comes to everyday spill cleanup, there are several products on the market that make environtmentally-friendly claims. We put our own ECHO All-Natural Absorbent, a completely organic absorbent and bioremediant, in a head-to-head trial with two of the market’s most popular eco-friendly absorbents:
Motor oil was poured on a concrete surface to form three equal-sized pools. The absorbents were added to each pool and allowed to sit for several minutes.
A floor brush was used to collect the material. The results are shown below.
Cocoabsorb was successful in absorbing the oil, but it required more material than the other products tested. Portions of it remained stuck to the surface after sweeping. Much of the product scattered around the area, making final cleanup difficult.
Spillfix demonstrated that fastest initial rate of absorption. It was the most difficult to clean up, however, as much of the product remained stuck to the concrete and would not yield to the pressure of the brush. The oil was absorbed, but the product was difficult to lift from the floor.
Compared to the other products, ECHO required only half the material to fully absorb the oil. It swept up easily, leaving the surface dry. The oil remained trapped within its particles, and no product residue was left behind.
But don’t just take our word for it — ECHO has undergone a series of independent environmental studies and tests. Studies completed at an EPA Certified lab have demonstrated ECHO’s proven effectiveness in attracting and absorbing hydrocarbons, as well as other potentially hazardous environmental contaminants.
